On the 6th December, 2007, I joined my ayah's colleagues and families to their Away Day at Al Sawadi Beach Resort (one hour drive from home). It's first time that I joined such an event and it became more interesting as it was in Oman. I enjoyed taking photos with camels eventhough I didn't dare riding them. The food was good and it's very nice relaxing by the beach.

Exciting Trip to Dubai

On the 3rd November 2007, we took a one-hour flight from Muscat to Dubai. Dubai is one of the seven emirates in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Upon arriving at Dubai International Airport, we took a cab to Jumeira Rotana Hotel. It's very nice hotel with a very good location - near to lots of restaurants and Satwa market for shopping.

On the first day in Dubai, we took a cab to Jumeira beach to take some photos of Burj Al Arab - acknowledged as the best hotel in the world! Then, we went to Madinat Jumeirah where we had our lunch. It's a resort with Arabian architecture. Souk Madinat Jumeirah is also located here where you can buy some souvenirs. Then, we moved to Mall of Emirates, one of the biggest malls in Dubai. This mall is famous for its indoor ski facility. At night, we had lunch at a Lebanese rastaurant near our hotel.

The second day was even more exciting. In the morning, we went to Mercato Shopping mall by accident. The taxi cab was supposed to drive us to Karama market but he might didn't hear us correctly. Anyway, the Mercato is the first and only Renaissance themed shopping mall in the Middle East region. Then, we went to Karama market where we bought a lot of souvenirs. The souvenirs sold here were at reasonable price and we have to bargain to get the best deal. At night, we went to Wafi City shopping mall. Nothing special here except for a playground facilities for me. Before we headed to our hotel, we did some shopping at Satwa market. Here is also a place for shopping similar to Karama market.

On the third day, we went to Meena Bazaar in Bur Dubai. It is a place if you want to buy some textile products. We didn't buy anything here but the scenery here was nice as it resides by the Dubai creek. We could see the water taxis from here. In the afternoon, we took a cab to bring us to the Syeikh Zayed road. Here is where most of the Dubai skyscrappers located. The most important thing is that this is where the tallest building in the world - Burj Dubai is located. The building is still under construction and it's already surpassing the Taipei 101. Now, the Burj Dubai already surpassing Toronto CN tower, and it becomes the world tallest freestanding structure. Then, we headed to HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's palace. His Highness is the ruler of Dubai (he is also the Vice President and the Prime Minister of UAE). We managed to get closer to its palace gate and took some pictures. We also managed to see the new palace which is still under construction. Then we went for final shopping at Karama market before heading to Children City. It is a very big park dedicated for children and houses some galleries for children's education.

On the 6th November 2007, we took a flight from Dubai heading back to Muscat. The taxi driver who drove us to the airport gave me AED 5 as a gift. It's a very exciting holidays and can't wait to come back to Dubai. Bye bye Dubai!

Visiting Oman Children Museum in Qurum

On the 30th October, we went to Oman's Children Museum in Qurum which is not far from our home. The museum houses all the scientific displays for the children. It educates the children to understand the role that science plays in human life. There was a group of school children when we arrived at the museum. We managed to take some photo with them . What a good experience!
